MILLING TOOLS
Milling Inserts
Perth-stock carbide milling inserts for face milling, shoulder milling, profiling and general indexable milling applications.
Select the insert by cutter compatibility, insert designation, size, geometry, workpiece material and grade. MachineryPLUS lists current stocked milling insert families so customers can quickly identify available replacement inserts for compatible cutter systems.
Choose by Insert Family
Match the insert designation to the cutter body first. Similar-looking inserts are not automatically interchangeable.
Stocked ANGX insert family for compatible indexable milling cutter systems.
Common indexable milling insert family used across compatible shoulder and general milling cutter systems.
Stocked APMT inserts for compatible indexable milling cutters and related applications.
Stocked LNKT insert family for matching milling cutter systems.
Round insert geometry suited to compatible profiling, contouring and copy-milling cutter systems.
Stocked SDMT inserts for matching indexable milling cutter bodies.
Stocked SEET insert family for compatible face and general milling applications.
Choose by Machining Requirement
Application helps narrow the selection, but final insert choice must still be confirmed against the exact cutter body.
Select inserts compatible with the face-mill body, cutter approach angle and required surface finish.
Match insert geometry to cutters designed for square shoulders, side milling and related operations.
Round and suitable profile inserts can provide stable engagement across changing cutter directions.
Use the insert family specified by the cutter manufacturer and match grade and geometry to the workpiece material.
Check the Complete Insert Specification
Insert designation alone is not enough. Size, geometry, grade and cutter compatibility must all match.
Confirm the insert is specified for the exact cutter body, pocket geometry and clamping system.
Match the full insert code rather than relying only on general shape or appearance.
Confirm length, thickness, inscribed circle and hole or seating dimensions where applicable.
Corner shape and radius influence edge strength, surface finish and cutter application.
Match insert grade and geometry to steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium or other engineering materials.
Select carbide grade and coating according to material, cutting speed, stability and required tool life.
Match Edge Strength to the Cutting Condition
Milling inserts experience repeated entry and exit from the cut, so edge strength and cutting geometry are important to process stability.
Sharper cutting edges can be useful for lighter cuts, less rigid setups and materials requiring low cutting force.
General-purpose geometries balance cutting force, edge strength, chip control and tool life.
Stronger geometries are preferred for heavier engagement, interrupted cutting or more demanding machining conditions.
Do Not Select by Shape Alone
Inserts with similar outlines can have different thickness, clearance, hole, seating or edge geometry.
Use the complete insert designation whenever possible, including size and geometry suffix.
The cutter pocket must support the insert correctly and position the cutting edge at the intended angle.
Hole size, screw arrangement and clamping method must match the cutter system.
Practical Milling Insert Selection
Start with the complete code printed on the current insert or listed on the cutter body.
Confirm the cutter model first, then use only the compatible insert family and size.
Keep cutter compatibility unchanged, then select the appropriate grade and geometry.
Send us the cutter model, insert photo and dimensions so compatibility can be checked before ordering.
