Product Overview

FODBITS gear-driven magnetic drill chucks are compact, integrated drilling and tapping chucks developed for compatible magnetic drilling machines with MT2 or MT3 spindles.

The drill chuck and Morse taper shank are manufactured as a one-piece assembly. Compared with a conventional drill chuck mounted on a separate arbor, this construction reduces the number of mechanical connections and helps minimise cumulative alignment error.

The gear-driven self-tightening mechanism provides strong tool clamping with ratchet self-locking action. Each chuck can be tightened and released by hand, allowing fast tool changes without a chuck key.

Magnetic Drill Special Design

The CZ-series is specifically configured for magnetic drilling applications. Compared with the standard FODBITS integrated Morse taper series, the CZ models use a shorter overall construction to provide additional working clearance on magnetic drilling machines.

For example:

  • Standard J0116-MT2 overall length: 198.5 mm
  • Magnetic-drill J0116-CZ-MT2 overall length: 184 mm
  • Standard J0116-MT3 overall length: 218 mm
  • Magnetic-drill J0116-CZ-MT3 overall length: 204 mm

The shorter configuration can be advantageous where available working height is limited.

Model Selection

Choose the model according to the machine spindle and required tool capacity:

  • J0113-CZ-MT2: MT2 connection, 1–13 mm clamping, drilling up to 20 mm and tapping up to M16
  • J0113-CZ-MT3: MT3 connection, 1–13 mm clamping, drilling up to 20 mm and tapping up to M16
  • J0116-CZ-MT2: MT2 connection, 1–16 mm clamping, drilling up to 24 mm and tapping up to M20
  • J0116-CZ-MT3: MT3 connection, 1–16 mm clamping, drilling up to 24 mm and tapping up to M20

Actual cutting performance depends on the magnetic drill, cutting tool, workpiece material, speed, feed, coolant and magnetic holding conditions.

Compatibility

Before ordering, confirm:

  • Magnetic drill spindle connection: MT2 or MT3
  • The spindle accepts a Morse taper shank with tang
  • Required clamping range: 1–13 mm or 1–16 mm
  • Required drilling and tapping range
  • Available working height and overall chuck length
  • Machine suitability for forward and reverse tapping
  • Machine manufacturer’s tool-weight and spindle limits

MT2 and MT3 shanks are not interchangeable. An MT2 chuck cannot be installed directly into an MT3 spindle, and an MT3 chuck cannot be installed directly into an MT2 spindle without a suitable adaptor or reducing sleeve.

Applications

Suitable applications may include:

  • Magnetic drilling with conventional twist drills
  • Forward and reverse tapping
  • On-site steel fabrication
  • Structural steel installation
  • Workshop maintenance
  • Machinery repair
  • General metalworking applications

Always follow the magnetic drill manufacturer’s limits for spindle speed, drilling capacity, tapping capacity, tool weight and magnetic holding force.
